Drama ensued at Lira Golf Course last evening when Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng the Minister of Health demanded that president, Yoweri Museveni takes away the Lira Resident District Commissioner, Milton Odongo.

On Sunday, President Museveni who is also the ruling NRM Party Presidential candidate was meeting NRM youth delegates from Lango sub-region as part of his campaign following their botched meeting on November 8th, 2020.

However, the meeting was going well until Dr. Aceng was invited to welcome the president to address the meeting.

The minister used the chance to express her discomfort saying she had no hand in the cancellation of the earlier youth meeting with the president as claimed, adding that  told the instead of promoting NRM candidates, the leaders in Lango are pulling them and singled out Odongo.

“There are some leaders even right here in our midst who instead of promoting NRM candidates, they choose to de-campaigning NRM candidates and promote opposition. Your Excellency, we have brought to your table several times the issue of the RDC of Lira, take him with you, we don’t want him here. Give us a new RDC who can handle issues of NRM very well” Aceng told Museveni.

According to reports from NRM leaders in the area, Odongo recently wrote to the office of the President accusing Hon. Sam Engola, the NRM Regional vice-chairperson for Northern Uganda and Aceng of promoting robbery in Lango and being the source of illegal guns being used by robbers in the sub-region.

However, when president Museveni took to the stage he only spoke about ideology and how that’s the best way to manage people and that it doesn’t require biology.

The President went on to lecture the youth delegates on wealth creation and also tasked them to help government follow up, monitor and accordingly report to relevant authorities’ abuse of government programs and public funds by unscrupulous officials.

Dr. Ruth Aceng announced that she was joining politics months ago when the country praised her for handling well the COVID-19 pandemic. She is contesting for the Lira District Woman Member of Parliament seat.
