Police and their military colleagues remain deployed outside the home of opposition National Unity Platform, NUP President Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu, despite a Court order, directing them to leave immediately.

For the last 11 days, security has been deployed at Kyagulanyi’s home in Magere, reportedly to protect him. However, the presidential candidate says he and the wife have been under house arrest, with no one allowed in or out of their home.

After today’s court ruling, police spokesperson Fred Enanga noted that they had not yet received the court order, but were considering vacating the area any time.

"Although we have not obtained a copy of the ruling, as a law-abiding institution and one that upholds the law, we are going to abide by the ruling and the security detail will vacate the home of Kyagulanyi," the police spokesperson noted.

However, by late afternoon Kyagulanyi said police officers were still outside his house, denying people access and neither was he allowed to leave.

The High Court ruled this morning that my continued house arrest (11 days now) is illegal & unconstitutional. Several hours later, the military still surrounds my home, blocking access to all! Perhaps (as always) waiting for Gen. Museveni's orders on the next course of action.
