The opposition Forum for Democratic Change, FDC wants government to come up with a date for re-opening of schools and communicate it to schools, students and parents.
While addressing the press at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi on Monday, John Kikonyogo the deputy party spokesperson noted that the future of Ugandan children remains uncertain as government has not figured out how students can resume their education alongside COVID-19.
President Yoweri Museveni announced closure of all schools on March 18th 2020, following the COVID-19 outbreak. However up to now, only candidates have been allowed to return to school for final examinations, as other pupils and students languish in villages.
Last week, Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga directed Government to come up with a statement on the same matter and present it before the house tomorrow Tuesday.
Kikonyogo says this a matter of national concern and should be given attention.
"As parents, this is something of National concern, but the way government is treating this issue is as if it is a small issue that can be handled any time when they deem fit. We as FDC are very much concerned that this pandemic is with us, its not going tomorrow but the government is not coming out to tell Ugandans how we are going to deal with it, as our children are going to school at the same time" Kikonyogo said.
He added that the Ministry of Health is no longer reminding Ugandans about the SOPs, like they did during campaigns when they used it to stop opposition candidates from freely campaigning.
