Officers at Ibulanku police post in Bugweri district are investigating circumstances under which an angry mob killed a suspected goat thief shortly after his escape from lawful custody at
27-year-old Emmanuel Wamuko was killed by angry residents of Nawansega village in Ibulanku Sub County on Tuesday morning.
According to James Mubi, the Busoga East Region police spokesperson, trouble for Wamuko started when he attempted to sell off two goats he is suspected to have stolen from the community.
Residents arrested the suspect and handed him over to police, only for him to escape from custody 30 minutes later.
His escaped angered residents prompting them to hunt him down.
They torched a sugar plantation where Wamuko had taken refuge forcing him to surrender. The angry residents then chopped Wamuko to pieces.
The area village chairperson Muzahamu Kazungu argued that 11 cows, 23 goats and an unspecified number of chickens have been stolen for the areas in a month’s time.
The deceased’s body was conveyed to Busesa health center IV mortuary where it is awaiting postmortem as detectives hunt down all those involved in mob justice.
