A total of 2,542 staff members are set to be recruited by the Ministry of Education and Sports for community schools which were taken over by the government.

the move was communicated by Prof Samuel Luboga the Education Service Commission Chairperson who noted that 82 schools across the country will benefit from the recruitment as part of government’s efforts to ensure each sub-county has public school.

Each of these schools will get 31 staff members including a headteacher and deputy, 23 classroom teachers and 6 support staff including a bursar, secretary, an enrolled nurse, library assistant and two laboratory assistants.

The schools have also been allocated two slots for teachers in the core subjects of Mathematics, English, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Swahili, History/Political Education, entrepreneurship/Economics, Business Studies, Physical Education, Geography and Religious Studies.

Meanwhile, the other subjects such as Swahili, business studies, entrepreneurship, physical education and religious education will receive only one teacher per subject.

Also, each school will receive four teachers for the elective subjects that include Information, Communication and Technology (ICT), Agriculture, Art and Design and vernacular.

Prof. Luboga says government has completed constructing 18 seed secondary schools, which are yet to be operationalized.
