The National Unity Platform party president, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has applauded his singing partner Ali Bukeni alias Nubian for becoming a leader in Kitalya prison where he and many other NUP supporters have been held for the last three months.

According to Kyagulanyi, his friend and singing partner has taken on many roles including counseling, to help members of the team who at some point have wanted to give up the struggle.

“Li Rasta, as Mandela told us, "There is no easy walk to freedom anywhere, and many of us will have to pass through the valley of the shadow of death again and again before we reach the mountaintop of our desires." You are having your share of the shadow of death for simply being my brother and believing that Uganda deserves better. I thank you for remaining strong for the rest of the team” Kyagulanyi wrote on his facebook page this morning.

He also noted that Nubian knew the challenges that came with supporting NUP, but accepted to sacrifice his freedom for the good of other Ugandans.

Kyagulanyi says NUP supporters who have come out of prison, have told him that Nubian has taken leadership of hundreds of their comrades at Kitalya, and done so with grace.

“They have told me that you are now a counsellor - some comrades come to you at the verge of despair and you encourage them to remain strong and hopeful in the face of impunity, injustice and uncertainty. I am strengthened by the fact that when we took this path, we fully understood the risks and challenges that lay ahead. May you continue being strong for the sake of everybody” Kyagulanyi says.

He promised that the party is doing everything within its power to secure the release of all those at Kitalya.
Nubian Li and many other NUP supporters were in December 2020 arrested in Kalangala when their presidential candidate had taken there his campaign. They have since been charged with being in illegal possession of a fire arm among other charges.
They were charged before the court martial and sent to Kitalya. Some of the group members have since been granted bail, while others remain in jail.
