Parliament has observed a moment of silence in remembrance of Brenda Wamala Nantongo, the daughter of Gen. Katumba Wamala, one of the UPDF representatives in Parliament.

Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanya noted that an attempt was made on one of their own, fortunately he survived. However, his daughter and driver Haruna Kayondo did not.
Brenda was laid to rest at the family’s ancestral home in Kikandwa, Kasawo town council Mukono district.

While opening parliament this afternoon before calling the President to speak at the State of the Nation Address taking place at Kololo on Friday, Oulanya said Gen. Katumba was recovering well. He then asked the MPs to rise and observe a moment of silence, in honor of the deceased.

Nantongo and Kayondo were shot dead on Tuesday morning by unknown gunmen who intercepted Gen Katumba’s vehicle registration number H4DF 2138 along Kisota road in Kisaasi and sprayed it with bullets.

During the burial, the Chief of Defense Forces-CDF General David Muhoozi assured Ugandans that, unlike other high profile killings where investigations and reports have delayed, this time investigations into Gen Katumba ‘s shooting will be thorough and a detailed report about the incident will be released on time.

General Katumba said that he was overwhelmed by the sympathies he received and support following the incident. It remains unclear who the killers are and their motive is yet to be established. Several individuals have since been arrested in connection to the incident.
