Panic has gripped residents of Aperikira Sub County in Kaberamaido district following disappearance of 16-year- old boy suspected to have been mauled by a crocodile.
This becomes a second attack following a similar incident of a 14- year- old boy at Okile Landing Site early this month.
The missing boy has been identified as Ivan Oluka, a primary six pupil of Abirabira Primary School in Aperikila Sub County.
According to the family, he reportedly went fishing with his father, Richard Esep at Esingu Landing site in Abirabira Parish on Sunday night.
However, the teen and his father went to separate directions to cast their nets when the crocodile attacked Oluka around 1:00 am.
It is said that the duo was using an open-cast method (casting the nets while walking in the shallow water) a practice common along the shores of Lake Kyoga.
According to Paul Ewoyu, the Aperikira sub-county LC III chairperson, the deceased made one alarm after the attack before the crocodile dragged him into the water.
The District Chairperson of Kaberamaido Victor Ekesu, promised to write to the Uganda Wildlife Authority to intervene in the situation.
By press time, residents were still searching for the body in both the water and the bushes along the lakeshores.
