Police in Kole district have in custody Denis Obal, the header teacher of Sr. Gabriella Memorial Comprehensive Secondary School for alleged theft of student’s exams registration fees.
it is alleged that Obal’s crime came to light after senior four leavers from his school failed to access their Uganda Certificate Education-UCE results several days after Uganda National Examination Board-UNEB released them.
They later found out that Obal, only remitted Shillings 600,000 from the over Shillings 5,740,000 he collected from 35 candidates to UNEB. This prompted the exam body to withhold the candidate’s results pending the clearance of the examination fees.
It was until candidates failed to access their results, that the learners decided to seek help from the police, which swung into action and picked up the head teacher.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga told the media at police Headquarters in Naguru this morning that each student paid Ugx164,000 for the examination.
He forged documents from Stanbic bank, indicating that he had cleared with UNEB. Enanga says Obal will be charged with forgery and utterance of false documents as well as fraud.
