Government has been called upon to intervene and find shelter for more than 30 families in Railway Ward in Kasese Municipality who are out in the cold, following heavy rains that destroyed their houses and several acres of crop gardens.

According to aggrieved residents, the rain characterized by strong winds and hailstorm which started at around 4 PM on Wednesday and lasted for close to an hour, also killed a number of domestic animals.

The victims are now appealing to the government and benevolent institutions for support.

Local leaders say the affected families are now being housed by relatives and neighbors who survived the destruction, though the situation may worsen with the onset of heavy rains in the region.

One of the victims only identified as Kabagambe, says that a heavy tree fell on his house bringing part of it down. He was only rescued by neighbors who quickly cut through the rubble to create a way for him to come out.

Chance Kahindo the Kasese Municipality Mayor, says that his office will liaise with the district to support the affected households.
