The Uganda Peoples Defense Forces, Police and Special Forces Command have heavily deployed in Moroto ahead of the visit of the minister of Education and Sports and first lady, Janet Museveni.
The Moroto- Soroti highway has been blocked and motorists are being diverted and other road users to access the high way through Campswahili chini to Katanga.
The minister is expected to officially opened Naoi Technical School in Moroto today. The school was constructed with the funding from European Union.
The EU ambassador is also expected to be part of the team touring the region.
However, many locals have been disturbed by the heavy deployment. They are wondering why a Minister’s visit attracts this much deployment, when the same can’t be done to curb cattle rustling in the wilderness.
Micheal Longole the Karamoja regional police Spokesperson argued that the heavy deployment was normal, to ensure the safety of the European Union delegations in Karamoja, ministry of Karamoja affairs ministers and the first lady who's also the minister of Education and sport.
"People should not get worried over the deployment because it is normal and it will not last long," Longole said.
