A 28-year-old applicant has collapsed and died during the Local Defense Personnel recruitment exercise in Lira City.

A 28-year-old applicant has collapsed and died during the Local Defense Personnel recruitment exercise in Lira City.

The deceased is identified as Solomon Amone, a resident of Adyel in Lira City West Division who collapsed and passed on shortly after covering 2.5 out of 5 kilometer run. 

Amone had completed the first phase of the recruitment including screening and qualified academically. 

The UPDF 5th Infantry Division spokesperson Flavia Terimulungi, confirmed the death of the applicant, saying that the deceased might have been on medication for an illness, which they are yet to establish.

Lawrence Egole, the Lira Resident City Commissioner also described the incident as unfortunate, saying the applicant died before he could be taken to the hospital.

The deceased’s body has been taken to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem. 
Currently, a team from the Uganda People’s Défense Force 4th Division is in Lira, conducting interviews for people who would wish to join the Local Defense Unit.
