The IGP has condemned the murder by mob of a police officer who was responding to a disturbance call in Namasagali, Kamuli district.
Enanga says that officers received a call from residents who were under threat from the mob in Kadungu B Village, Kisaakye at around 6pm on Sunday evening.
According to Enanga, the victims identified as Namuyindo Alex and Oju Joseph both witch doctors who were accused of bewitching two people to death in July were rescued and rushed to Kamuli District police station for safe custody.
However, the irate mob attacked the police station and injured one of the suspects (Namuyindo Alex). He later succumbed to the injuries. The mob also attacked two police officers identified as Sgt Nakabuye Florence and detective constable Kasolo Francis, overwhelmed, disarmed them, and seriously injured Kasolo who died on the way to the hospital.
Police are investigating the matter to ensure that the killers are brought to book.
