The COVID-19 vaccination drive in Soroti district has been extended to bars, trading centers, markets, burial sites and Churches in order to reach many people. The development follows low turn up of residents at health centers to receive the jab.

The district health authorities decided to take vaccination campaign to socialization areas to help reach out to several people in the villages.

According to Statistics from Soroti Regional Referral Hospital which hosts the COVID-19 treatment center in the region, on average, 14 people test positive for coronavirus each day.

In Teso region, Soroti district/city has the highest burden of COVID-19, followed by Serere, Ngora, Kumi, Kaberamaido and Kalaki districts.
According to medics at the main hospital, most of the people testing positive are non-vaccinated.

The COVID-19 Focal Point Person at Soroti Regional Referral Hospital Dr. Wilson Etolu, says that the decision was arrived at, following the poor turn up of people for the vaccination exercise.

While speaking at one of the popular bars in Pamba Ward, Soroti City West Division where medics had pitched a camp for vaccination on Sunday, Dr. Etolu noted that they will be doing the activities daily and even visit burial sites to ensure that everyone is reached.
