Police is searching for unknown armed robbers who shot dead a money changer in Busia district and made off with Shillings 6 million and a motorcycle.

Police is searching for unknown armed robbers who shot dead a money changer in Busia district and made off with Shillings 6 million and a motorcycle. 

The deceased has been identified as 38-year-old- Steven Egesa, a resident of Asopotoite B village in Sikuda sub-county.  

The incident happened on Sunday night along Busia-Tororo road in Mawero village when Egesa was on his way home. 

According to residents in the area where the crime occurred, they heard gunshots at around 8:20 pm and only saw two motorcycles carrying two people each heading to Tororo road and Alupe road. 
Shortly after, they heard someone crying for help and when they rushed to the scene, they found a man in a pool of blood and immediately notified the police  

Fred Bwire the deceased’s brother says they were informed about the attack on his sibling by people at the scene, and that they tried to rush him to the hospital to save his life in vain.

According to Mathew Tusubira, the Deputy Busia Resident District Commissioner, police recovered three bullet cartridges from the scene which are expected to help in the ongoing investigations into the matter.

The deceased’s body was conveyed to the mortuary in Busia county hospital in Kenya pending post-mortem.
