Moses Kaahwa, the in-charge of Butiaba Health Centre III in Buliisa District has revealed that the facility which serves between 1,000-1,400 patients every month, is facing an acute shortage of drugs.

According to Kaahwa, some of the essential medicines such as anti-malaria drugs, antibiotics, vaccines, and medical supplies such as syringes, gloves, catheters, and gauze among others are not available, due to the delayed delivery by the National Medical Stores-NMS.

The in charge also says that for instance, the drugs they ordered in October last year were delivered in December and they are shared among the residents as well as Congolese nationals.

The huge influx of Congolese nationals flocking the facility to access health services is exerting pressure on the little drugs allocated to them.

They are now forced to send patients to buy certain drugs from private clinics because of shortage at the facility.

Patients say the majority of residents can’t afford services in private health facilities and called on the government to upgrade the facility to Health Center IV so as to deliver adequate services to residents.

n October 2020, the same facility was submerged by floods that resulted from the rising water levels of Lake Albert.
