An angry mob has lynched a suspected cattle thief at Nakabiito village in Nakigoza Parish in Ziroobwe Sub-County, Luwero district.
The deceased is Geoffrey Muswedde, 28 who allegedly raided a farm of one of the residents and together with others still at large, made away with two cows.
According to Erinest Ssekiziyivu, the Nakabiito village LC 1 chairman, the farm that was raided belongs to Ssali Alemanzani.
Ssekiziyivu says they had earlier lost at least 20 Cows to the thieves which prompted residents to produce a list of suspects with Geoffrey Muswedde included as one of the masterminds.
However, during the raid on Alemanzani’s farm, one of the thieves left behind his shoes and it was later confirmed that they belonged to Muswedde himself.
The thief had been allegedly heard making phone calls saying he wanted to pick up his shoes, prompting him to return to the village.
He however run out of luck, when locals spread dragnets to catch him on arrival and surrounded him before he was chased, pounced on, and beaten to death.
Isah Ssemwogerere, the Savannah Regional Police spokesperson condemned the act, noting that locals should not have taken the law into their hands.
Ssemwogerere urged locals to help police with information in connection to this incident.
