Police in Busia district have arrested Justus Wanyama, the LC 1 chairperson of Bujwanga village in Bulwenge parish in Buhehe sub-county for abetting livestock theft.
Wanyama allegedly connived with unidentified thugs from Kenya to steal livestock in his area, prompting Mathew Tusubira the Busia Deputy Resident District Commissioner to order his arrest.
Residents implicated the chairman during a security meeting at Sibona trading center that had brought together residents and chairpersons of all the 14 villages of Bulwenge parish in Buhehe sub-county, which are battling rampant cases of livestock.
According to the RDC, he ordered the arrest of the village chairperson following claims by residents that he is part of the racket of livestock thefts.
Some of the residents of Bujwanga village allege to have severally witnessed Wanyama hosting unknown people from Kenya at night before their animals would disappear.
