The Police at Wakiso are investigating a fire outbreak that happened today 14/03/2022 at about 0030/c, killing two children.

Luke Owoyesigyire the PRO KMP says incident occured when one Nantume Florence ,  26 a resident of kigima village, Bukasa parish, wakiso subcounty, wakiso district closed her two children identified as Eliazari katanaza 4, and Efofo Hamstrong 2 in their one roomed house leaving a candle burning, before heading to kigoma centre to buy some medicines for a tooth ache.

However, on coming back she found the house burning and the two children  lying down near the door unconscious while the fire was still on. She sounded an alarm which prompted the neighbors to come to the rescue.

The neighbors pulled the two children out and put off the fire using water. But, on checking the two children, there was no breath in them .

Police visited the scene and they picked the two bodies which were conveyed to city mortuary Mulago for postmortem.

The report confirmed that the children died of suffocation since the burns on their bodies were minor. Statements have been taken from the father of the deceased one Balinda Patrick 33 and the mother.

Owoyesigyire says there was negligence by the mother of the deceased leaving the two young children in the house alone with the door closed from outside and a burning candle.

This is a second incident in five days after  two other children in Makindye were left locked in the house that burnt down and the fire burnt them beyond recognition.
He urged parents to remain vigilant and avoid using candles as a source of light and like wise avoid leaving their children inside the house alone without being attended to.
