Police in Apac District is investigating a death by suicide of Ekela Richard a 29-year-old resident of Abuge village, Apoi parish, Apoi Sub-County Apac District.

According to ASP Patrick Jimmy Okema PRO-North Kyoga, it is alleged that on the 5th of April 2022, Ekela Richard went drinking at the trading center of Abuge and came back home drunk.
He however slept in a separate hut while his wife and the children slept in the main house.

On Wednesday 6th April 2022, the wife waited for the husband to come out of the house in vain. The family broke the door only to find him hanging on a rope. They called neighbours and the area LCI Chairperson Mr Opio Denis who reported to the police at Apac CPS.

Detectives from Apac visited the scene and confirmed the incident, recorded statements from close relatives and the body was handed over to them for burial.

Ekela had 3 children with his first wife, but they separated and he married a second wife who is a drunkard and doesn't look after the children.

Neighbours also say the couple had several domestic disagreements, and the deceased resorted to drinking due to frustration.

Okema urged community members to share their problems with close relatives or friends but also blamed the clan leaders for not doing enough in solving some of those marital challenges.
