Joint security organs are investigating a suspected bomb blast which occurred in Kyangoma village, Kkingo sub-county in Lwengo District.
According to Winfred Nalwanga a resident of Nkoni trading center along the Masaka-Mbarara highway, they heard a strange explosion at about 9:30 pm on Sunday, causing a panic in the area.
Nalwanga says that moments after the blast went off, they heard people in the neighborhood raising alarm and calling for help, which prompted officers from Nkoni Police Post to respond to the situation.
She adds that although the incident left no injuries, the community was left in fear.
Police officers with help from residents who rushed to respond to the scene of crime recovered suspicious metallic materials at the scene.
The incident occurred about 150 meters away from a venue that was hosting an Easter disco. Revelers were instructed to return home.
The incident also disrupted traffic along the Masaka-Mbarara highway on Monday as the Police bomb squad visited the scene.
According to Muhammad Nsubuga the Greater Masaka Regional Police Spokesperson, a joint security team responded to the blast, and will give details of their investigations later.
Nsubuga has appealed to the community to remain calm, saying that the security team has assessed the situation and confirmed that there was no more danger.
