President Yoweri Museveni is on Tuesday expected in Omoro where he will campaign for the NRM Party candidate Andrew Ojok Oulanyah in Odek Sub-county and Opit Town Council.
Today is the final day of campaigns ahead of the election of the new MP for Omoro County slated for May 26, 2022.
The political atmosphere in Omoro has heated up as candidates make their final lap to solicit votes. Campaigns kicked off on May 16 with six candidates fighting to replace the late Jacob Oulanyah also former Speaker of Parliament which occurred on March 20, 2022.
The candidates include the late Oulanya’s son Andrew Ojok Oulanyah representing the National Resistance Movement party, Oscar Kizza the Alliance for National Transformation-ANT candidate, Justine Odong, the Forum for Democratic Change Party candidates, Simon Toolit Akecha, the National Unity Platform-NUP party candidate, Jimmy Walter Onen, and Terrence Odonga, both Independent Candidates.
According to Walter Onen, his manifesto revolves around six key areas amongst them revamping the agriculture, health, and education sectors in Omoro District.
Onen argues that the district has for long lagged behind, arguing that he sees himself as a person who will be able to address them swiftly once elected.
Meanwhile, FDC’s Odong while campaigning in Awoo Town Board also reiterated the need to provide safe and clean water to the locals and improve the education sector, which has been ignored for a long time.
He said that once elected into Parliament, he will be a good listener and will work closely with the local community and their leaders to ensure equal development.
Different Party Presidents including FDC’s Patrick Amuriat Oboi and Maj Gen (Rtd) Mugisha Muntu, the ANT party president also joined their candidates on Monday to comb for support ahead of the by-election.
Gen. Muntu believes the opposition will win the by-elections if the voters are not swayed away by the bribery of NRM party members.
