The leadership of Uganda National Teachers Association-UNATU in Kasese District has threatened to terminate the membership of teachers who will not adhere to the ongoing industrial action.
This comes a day after UNATU declared a nationwide strike at all levels in their quest for equality and harmonization of the salary enhancement among teachers of different subjects, support staff, and school administrators.
According to Joseph Basisa the chairperson of UNATU Nyakasanga Division in Kasese Municipality, they will monitor all schools to ensure that the teachers observe the industrial action.
He adds that they have resolved to form a Surveillance team to ensure there is compliance but also help teachers who could be under threat from their supervisors.
They also want parents to appreciate their demands and further compel the government to honor its pledge to increase teachers’ salaries.
Meanwhile, Joshua Bwambale the Chairperson UNATU Kasese Municipality says that they will not allow head teachers to intimidate their members.
Bwambale asks the government to urgently consider making a supplementary budget if they want all teachers to return to class.
He said that they have beefed up their legal department to ensure they deal with anybody who frustrates their demands.
The Minister of Education Janet Museveni is expected to meet UNATU leaders tomorrow Friday over the industrial action.
