Security forces have applauded locals in Luwero town council for aiding in the arrest of three suspects attached to the Allied Democratic Forces-ADF.
A team of joint security operatives and journalists on Wednesday afternoon stormed the residence of Umar Kabonge Ajobe, a resident of Kikubajinja zone after receiving intelligence information he was assembling a locally made bomb.
Ajobe was netted alongside two others including Ajobe, Akbar Kabanda and the unidentified man whom he claimed were planning to attack Kampala city. Their incomplete house was piled with several metallic implements used for making Improvised Explosive Devices, (IED).
According to the security forces, the suspects were strategically plotting another bomb attack in Kampala City and other areas.
Brigadier General Felix Kulayigye told journalists that the place has been a training, recruitment and assembling camp for ADF rebels.
The terrorist cell located in a small grey gate with about three rooms and an underground hole had various metallic implements that include nails, electric wires, a pistol with 29 rounds of ammunition, forks, an empty bottle of coke and Afia juice, a pack of burning incense, and gun oil among others.
Kulayigye thanked locals in Kasana, Luwero TC for being vigilant and reporting the brewing crime to security forces in time.
“We thank the local leaders from this area for reporting this to us, let us go back to the old methods of registering all locals in an area for security purposes. Despite the main suspect being a muslim, nobody ever saw him going to the mosque, yet he was a committed muslim. They had already bought a car to transport the explosives we suspect were going to Kampala” Kulayigye says
Kulayigye says this is not the first time that one of the suspects ‘Akbar ‘ has been arrested for terror related crimes. In March 2022, he was arrested after attacked CPS in Kampala and hid an explosive device in the ground. He says the suspect was pardoned and granted amnesty.
Locals in Kasana Piida Parish at Luwero town council, say that they only knew Ajobe as a welder and metal scrap dealer but had no clue that he was linked to terror activities.
Lawrence Kakumba, the councilor of Kasana Piida Parish at Luwero town council, says that they only knew Ajobe as a welder and didn’t know that he was linked to terror activities.
In November last year, unidentified security operatives picked up Sheikh Swaibu Segujja, the Assistant Secretary for Zakat under the Luwero Muslim District, and the Imam of Butanza mosque in Katikamu Sub County their alleged ADF links.
