President Yoweri Museveni has distributed one billion shillings to victims and casualties of three separate bomb blasts that killed five people in 2021.
Among the beneficiaries are victims of the November 2021 twin bomb blasts carried out by three suicide bombers at Parliamentary Avenue near the Insurance building close to CPS Kampala.
Two suicide bombers on motorbikes disguised as "Boda Boda" riders detonated a device near parliament, while a third attacker targeted a checkpoint near the central police station.
Victims of the October 2021 attacks at a local pork joint in Komamboga have also been considered.
Police have since confirmed that a domestic group allied to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), an affiliate of the ISIL (ISIS) group in central Africa, was behind the attacks. ISIL claimed responsibility
During a brief ceremony on Sunday at the police headquarters in Naguru, the State House Comptroller Jane Barekye distributed the hard cash to victims and families.
20 million shillings was handed to the families of the victims who died in the blasts while 10 million was given to victims who survived with injuries.
Over fifty-seven victims received the money, including police officers and civilians.
In her message, Barekye said President Museveni condemns all forms of terrorism that have led to the loss of lives of Ugandans and left many others incapacitated.
She states that this money is a form of empathy and condolence to the bereaved families.
“The President sent this small package as a show of empathy. Use this condolence to rebuild your lives, Don't just eat it but invest,” She says
The money was distributed in the presence of the Director of Crime Intelligence Fred Ddamulira and the Commandant of Kampala Metropolitan Police Senior Commissioner of Police Steven Tanui.
