President Yoweri Museveni, also the Commander in Chief of the armed forces, has made changes and promoted senior officers under the Uganda People's Defence forces(UPDF).
In an official communication dated September 12, 2022 by the UPDF spokesperson Brig Gen. Felix Kuliaygye, the promotions and appointments take immediate effect.
Colonel Paul Muhanguzi was promoted to Brigadier General and appointed Second Infantry Division, Second in Command.
Colonel Peter Akankunda was promoted to Brigadier General and appointed First Infantry Division – Second in Command. He has served as the 403 Brigade Commander, under the UPDF 3 Infantry Division.
This makes it the fourth time that the President is initiating changes to the UPDF in one year. The first promotions were made in January and the next group was in April.
President Museveni last week on September 08, 2022, promoted 469 senior UPDF officers and confirmed 28 officers into senior ranks.
The recognized officers were promoted to ranks of Brigadier General, Colonel, and Lieutenant Colonel while those confirmed were given titles of Major.
