The police in Luuka are investigating the cause of fire that killed a 4 year old child and destroyed property yet to be quantified.
The incident occurred on Tuesday 8/11/2022 in industrial zone, Kiyunga ward, Luuka Town Council in Luuka district at the commercial building of a business man identified as Mugume Nicholas.
According to ASP Kasadha Micheal the PRO Busoga North, it is alleged that, at around 1500hrs, the wife to Mugume was preparing food when one of the workers accidentally poured petrol into the charcoal stove.
The fire immediately gutted the house and reduced it and the minor to ashes. It is also alleged that food was being prepared near a store of fuel (diesel and Petrol)
The property destroyed include; A motor vehicle (Toyota Harrier), public address system, motor cycle & bicycle spare parts, jerricans filled with fuel among others.
The body of the minor was discovered this morning burnt beyond recognition.
A postmortem and further inquiries are ongoing.
“We want to caution the members of the public to always heed to the guidelines on storage of flammable substances vis-a-vis their safety,” says Kasadha.
