In Nakulabye, Rubaga Division, a shocking incident unfolded last Tuesday when a hand grenade detonated inside a house, leading to the arrest of a 39-year-old Congolese national. The police's swift response prevented any harm to family members, according to Mr. Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson.
The suspect, who has resided in Uganda for the past four years, allegedly confessed to illegally bringing the grenade into the country. Remarkably, no family member suffered injuries during the explosion. Enanga provided insights, stating, "No family member got injured. The family had stayed in the area for 4 years after migrating as refugees from North Kivu."
The aftermath of the incident led investigators to retrieve several items for further analysis, including a safety pin, a green lead, a spoon, and soil samples. The evidence suggested that the hand grenade had detonated on-site, and the suspect admitted to its illicit importation into the country. More concerning, the statement revealed that the suspect had tampered with the hand grenade.
In light of this incident, law enforcement agencies have issued a stern reminder to all refugees to adhere to Uganda's laws to avoid potential arrest and subsequent legal proceedings. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to legal norms for the safety and well-being of all residents in Uganda.
