Today, Tuesday 26th January 2016, Uganda celebrates 30 years rule of the NRM government under leadership of President Museveni. This day also commemorates the NRA/NRM Liberation day.
Today’s national celebrations are taking place at St. Leo’s college grounds in Fort Portal under the theme; “30 Years of NRM's Committed Stewardship: A Remarkable Legacy for Uganda.”
On January 25, 1986, the National Resistance Army (NRA), under the wing of the political National Resistance Movement (NRM), ousted a government that represented years of corruption, civil rights offenses, and alleged voter fraud.
The movement, led by Yoweri Museveni, promised “a fundamental change in the politics” of Uganda. The country now commemorates the event every year as NRM Liberation Day, though not without its detractors.
It’s against this background that Ugandans are criticizing the failure by government to realize the 10 points program set by President Museveni in 1986.

1. Democracy
2. Security
3. Consolidation of National security and elimination of all forms of sectarianism
4. Defending and consolidating National Independence
5. Building an independent, integrated and self-sustaining national economy
6. Restoration and improvement of Social services and the rehabilitation of the war ravaged areas
7. Elimination of corruption and misuse of power
8. Redressing errors that have resulted in the dislocation of sections of the population and improvement of others
9. Co-operation with other African countries in defending human and democratic rights of our brothers in other parts of Africa
10. Following an economic strategy of mixed economy
Today, according to a number of Ugandans, the levels of corruption are higher than pre-1986. On January 29th 1986 when President Museveni was swearing in, he said “No one should think that what is happening today is a mere change of guard; it is a fundamental change in the politics of our country.”
Many Ugandans today feel the NRM’s promises of “fundamental change” seem to have been lost in recent years.
