The opposition FDC party iron man Rtd. Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye has been arrested at his Kasangati.
Besigye was this morning arrested as he attempted to kick-start his planned procession to the Electoral commission head offices in town.
Last evening, the Police spokesperson Fred Enanga issued a warning against Besigye’s planned procession to EC claiming it would interfere with students who today are heading back to school.
Besigye was planning to hold a procession from Kasangati to electoral commission to purportedly pick up his copy of the declaration of results form this morning.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga however in a statement last night warned the general public against joining Dr. Besigye, claiming that police has not received any formal communication from him of the intended procession as required under Section 5 of the Public Order Management Act 2013.
Enanga argues that the planned procession coincides with the opening of the new school term and any procession will infringe on the collective rights of the parents and their school going children.
He therefore urged Dr. Kiiza Besigye to respect the law as well as the rights of the parents, their children and the travelling public, and “failure to comply will leave the police no option but to use necessary means to maintain law and order in accordance with the Constitution.”
