The Uganda human rights network for journalists, HRNJ team together with the media fraternity have demanded for the immediate resignation of minister without portfolio, Abraham Byandala from his ministerial post.

The development follows Byandala’s stupid act while at the Anti-corruption Court in Kololo on Wednesday where he punched a female journalist in the lower abdomen, causing her serious pain.

The decision was communicated by Mr. Ssempala Robert, the HRNJ National coordinator, at Hotel Triangle this morning, where he addressed the press.

According to the victim Naluggwa Judith, a Vision group Journalist, the ill-mannered Byandala called her aside, asked why she insisted on recording him during the Court session, before punching her in the stomach and injuring her hand.

Nalugwa says she had clinical tests done by a police specialist, and returns to the station to make a statement on the matter today.

Now, journalists have demanded Byandala’s immediate resignation, or else, they will pile pressure on the appointing authority, H.E Yoweri Museveni to fire him.

“We want Mr. Byandala to resign his portfolio as minister willingly. If he does not resign, we impress it upon the appointing authority, the President to relinquish him of his duties as minister,” says Ssempala.

Ssempala added; “we have resolved to dispatch our legal team to offer free legal aid and support to Judith in pursuit of justice.”
