Speaking at his residence on Saturday, Besigye who has been under house arrest for over a month told Journalists that the Police officers vacated his home at about midnight on Friday.

“It is the pressure from the high court, the international community and Ugandans that has forced the Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura to order his officers out of my home, without this I don’t think they would  have left,” said Besigye.

However Besigye expressed skepticism about Police’s move to withdraw from his home saying they would return.

“I don’t believe they have fully released me, infact I have been told that some of them are still monitoring me but from a distance. They are doing this because the court is about to rule on the matter,” he added.

Besigye, who vowed to continue with his defiance campaign, demanded that the government carries out an independent audit of the results of the February 18 presidential elections.

“I will not stop this until an independent audit of the election results has been done by election auditors. And on Tuesday next week, I will be in Najjanankumbi to attend the FDC prayers,” Besigye said.

On Friday, Police chief Kale Kayihura ordered his officers to vacate Besigye’s home after the high court Okayed Kasangati chief magistrate court to proceed with the case in which Besigye challenged his continued House arrest.
