President Yoweri Museveni has revealed that the government priority programs of road construction, electricity generation and making the country industrious under a stable political environment, are aimed at creating many more jobs of different categories in Uganda.

President Museveni made the revelation while addressing a delegation of 100 non-unionized workers who called on him at State House, Entebbe yesterday. The delegation comprised members from 30 districts in the Acholi, Lango, West Nile and Karamoja Sub-Regions in the north of the country. He stressed that the question of catering for interest groups in the country is a priority in the NRM system of governance.

"NRM has fought for women and other marginalized groups like the youth, people with disabilities, creating positions for them especially in Parliament since 1986," he emphasized.

He advised non-unionized workers not be deceived that wages can be created by the law. "In a situation of having hotels, transport companies and factories, among others, means there is high demand for jobs hence an obvious increment for wages," he observed.

He assured the delegation that he will discuss with trade union organizations to concretize such issues that have been raised including uniform wage, salary loan and wage enhancement for non-unionized workers.

Turning to Civil Servants, President Museveni challenged them to be neutral in their work and serve everyone under a multiparty dispensation.

The leader of non-unionized workers delegation, Mr. Josephine Omara, decried what he termed high exploitation in terms of remuneration while in service.”
