The former Forum for Democratic Change-FDC presidential candidate Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye, has been airlifted back to Kampala to face charges of treason.

Besigye was this morning airlifted from Moroto district aboard a chartered plan after Gerald Amalo Peter; the Moroto Resident State Attorney filed an application by before the Moroto Chief Magistrate, Charles Yeteise.

In his application, Abalo argued before court that although Besigye faces treason, which can be tried anywhere in Uganda, he deserves a descent and befitting treatment that is only available in Luzira prison given his status as a former presidential candidate.

He also told court that the state decided to transfer the opposition iron man following intelligence reports that his life is danger and the fact, that the offense he is facing was committed in Wakiso district.

Moroto Chief Magistrate, Charles Yeteise delivered the ruling allowing the transfer of the suspect, and directed that the suspect is accompanied to Kampala by the officer in Charge of Moroto Prison, William Awany.

Court adjourned at exactly 12:50pm, and Besigye was whisked off to Nadugent Airstrip before flying off to Kampala.

Present in court was Besigye’s sister Dr. Olive Kobusingye but couldn't speak to the media since everything happened so fast.

However, chief FDC party mobilize, Ingrid Turinawe, said Besigye is expected to land at Kajjansi airfield before he is moved to Luzira Prison.
