Former FDC presidential candidate Dr. Kiiza Besigye has this morning appeared before the Nakawa Chief Magistrate court and was remanded to Luzira till June 1st 2016.
Roads heading to Nakawa were this morning sealed off as the opposition iron man was brought in under tight security.
Dr. Besigye faces fresh treason charges as those slapped against him in Moroto were rendered null and void since his transfer back to Kampala on Monday, according to judiciary's Senior Communications Officer Solomon Muyita.
Nakawa Chief Magistrate James Eremye issued a production warrant to Luzira prison officials to deliver Dr Besigye today at 9am which was effected.
Besigye’s troubles begun last week when a video of him swearing in as president of the Republic of Uganda went viral on social media.
In the video, an unidentified female judge is seen presiding over the event that was attended by several FDC top officials in an unknown location.
The events happened a day to the legit president Museveni’s swearing in ceremony. Some FDC officials including leader of opposition, Wafula Oguttu, party Chairman Waswa Birigwa, and Geoffrey Ekanya have since been summoned to explain their role in the law breaking activity.
This is the second time that Besigye is charged with treason, a capital offence in only punishable by death in Uganda. The first trial in 2005 was dropped.
