Today marks day two and final day of the orientation of members of the 10th parliament. Members Abdu Katuntu, Wilfred Niwagaba, and Markson Oboth are in charge of the two day activity at parliament.
Bugweri MP, Abdu Katuntu, took the new MPs through Rules of Procedure. He taught them not to argue with the Speaker since she by law controls proceedings.
He also told members that as long as they carry the title MP, they are all equal. “MPs are equal in Plenary irrespective of government positions, time spent in Parliament,” said Katuntu.
Hon. Katuntu also took them through the sitting arrangement of parliament.
“Front benches are reserved for Ministers (government/shadow), free sitting is elsewhere on backbenches.” Be courteous to colleagues whether you agree with them or not.' Do not make unnecessary movement in Plenary, you disrupt proceedings,” Katuntu added.
Hon. Wilfred Niwagaba on the other hand asked the legislators to support the Speaker by providing quorum to transact/vote on matters in Plenary, adding that one should also consult the Speaker before a sitting in order to present private members business in plenary.
“Support, respect each other as colleagues regardless of parties.”
