The 10th parliament legislator has been urged to resist any attempts by some authorities to turn the house into a wheel barrow whose pusher determines the direction.
The call was made by Democratic Party publicist Kenneth Paul Kakande this morning during a press conference in Kampala.
According to Kakande, parliament is expected to assert its independence and rather not be used as a president’s walking stick.
“It doesn’t have to conflict with the other arms of government, more so, the executive, but it shouldn’t abandon its role of checking the Executive,” said Kakande.
He added; “It is the hope of the Democratic Party that even the president will recognize this very important principle of separation of power by appreciating the fact that any government with no checks and balances is a government headed for failure.”
Kakande says parliamentarians are bound by duty to establish a legacy in legislations that they themselves will be proud of and those that their children and grand children will build upon for the good of today and tomorrow generations.
