Amb. Olara Otunnu, the opposition Uganda People’s Congress, UPC president has handed over power to his vice, Joseph Bbosa.

In a letter addressed to Professor Edward J.B Kakonge, the national chairperson UPC Ottunu faction, the former party president says he has served more years than he was supposed to and its time he stood down.

“As I informed the party cabinet, having faithfully soldiered on well beyond the time I had planned, I strongly feel that I must now pass on this baton and responsibility. This is important and necessary for the party,” Otunnu wrote.

He adds; Acting in conformity with article 13.2 (7) of the party constitution, I hand over the party presidency to the vice president on the occasion of the convocation of the National Council.”

The hand over was planned to take place and become effective at the close of the foiled National Council on 7th May, 2016.

“In view of this development, I wish to inform you that the planned transition will now take place and become effective on 1st July 2016” Otunnu told the media in Kampala today.

Joseph Bossa, the former party Vice president, and now president accepted the new responsibility and asked for corporation from party members.

“I accept to assume the responsibility coffered upon me by the party constitution. I look forward to receiving full cooperation from all party members and stakeholders. I do hope that all members and stakeholders will play their respective role in order to fulfill our common responsibility” Said Bossa.

UPC is still divided into two factions of Otunnu and Late Obote’s son, Jimmy Akena.
