The Muslim community in Uganda is seeking inclusion in different government entities and demanding a share on the national cake.
This comes in a wake of the swearing in ceremony of the cabinet, which they claim the president unfairly appointed.
Haji Nsereko Mutumba, the PRO Uganda Muslim Council says muslims are not being given a fair share of the cake considering that women, people with disabilities, regions and other religions were considered except them.
He lashed at the president for only remembering them when he is looking for votes, but forgets them after they have delivered to him.
Haji Mutumba also explains that they have educated children who can as well serve in different ministries. He claims the only jobs Muslims receive are drivers.
“In the last cabinet, we had only one second Prime Minister Gen. Moses Ali, but his job description was a bit ambiguous and we had only four State Ministers. We agitated and reminded our beloved government that this is not the way to exercise equity and equality in as far as religious denominations are concerned.”
Haji Mutumba was however thankful that they were given five Cabinet ministers. He however says that out of the 115 Chief Administrative officers in Uganda, only 6 are Muslims.
“When you go to the ministry of local government, there are 282 employees, only 27 are Muslims with CAOs inclusive, Ministry of Trade and cooperatives, 150 employees, only 14 are Muslims, and predominantly that number is drivers and tea servers. I don’t know why or is it because they don’t drink that’s why they are interested in driving!” says Haji Mutumba.
He explains that most Muslims are in the opposition because government has sidelined them. They now want the president to reconsider their request to be fully included in important duties.
