High court Judge Justice Wilson Masalu Musene has adjourned to tomorrow the ruling in which former presidential candidate Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye is asking for bail.
Troubled FDC iron man this morning presented five sureties in his Bail application hearing at high court.
Besigye presented FDC party president Maj Gen. Mugisha Muntu, Rubaga Mayor Joyce Sebugwawo, FDC secretary general Nathan Nandala Mafabi and Rukungiri MP Roland Mugume as his sureties.
Besigye based his Bail application on grounds that he has been in custody on remand since May 2016, he is of advanced age, Besigye says he is 60 years old, Besigye also says he has a permanent home in Kasangati, meaning he will not escape, and he is willing to appear before high court as required.
The state however objected to Dr Kizza Besigye's request to be released on non-cash bond saying bail is not automatic, before demanding for proof that Besigye is indeed 60 years old.
The state also asked Justice Musene to disregard Besigye’s application claiming they fear he will resume his defiance campaign.
Besigye's lawyer Kalibbala however said his client can be cross-examined for confirmation that he indeed is 60 years old. He also told court that “Besigye is in court on treason charges. We're not aware of any defiance charge or evidence on defiance.”

Kalibbala begged that the judge finds Besigye’s sureties deemed as substantial by state as enough reason to grant bail.
Several opposition leaders including FDC big shots attended today’s court hearing including party president Mugisha Muntu, Hon. Mwijukye Francis, party spokesperson Ssemujju Nganda, party secretary general Nandala Mafabi, Ingrid Turinawe, among others.
