The Democratic Party has also condemned the move by government to amend the land acquisition laws.

Party Vice president Fred Mukasa Mbidde says between 2005 and 2011, DP strived to ensure that the people’s right to property particularly land and other natural resources including forests is guaranteed as evidenced by  the Mabira forest riots.

He now says it is ill-fated that the Government has forgotten the grievances caused by the same, scarcely after a decade.

Hon. Mbidde promises that the proposed Land Amendment Bill will not leave the Democratic Party placed cross-legged claiming that such proposals bring back fresh remembrances of the state of people fighting for their property.

The party argues that the Law regarding Land acquisition by government is well canvassed both in the Constitution and the Land acquisition Act and the country does not need any other.

“Any such enactment renders it an attempt to amend Land Rights under Article 26 by a mere Bill which is unconstitutional.”
