Opposition iron man Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye is today set to report to the High Court as part of his bail conditions.
Besigye faces treason charges slapped against him in May 2016 when he swore himself in as the president of Uganda, prior to the official inauguration of the legitimate president Yoweri Museveni.
Unlike at his past appearances, there is no presence of extra security personnel outside the court and it is rather unclear whether Besigye will appear.
He is expected to appear before court at exactly 09:00am.
He was granted Bail on July 12th by High Court Judge, Justice Masalu Wilson Musene who ordered him to report to the deputy registrar of the Criminal Division of the High court every two weeks.
Besigye, on August 18th was granted permission by Justice Yasin Nyanzi to travel abroad where he has been until yesterday Monday 3rd October when he returned.
Court had initially ordered him to return as early as possible and to report to the registrar on September 18th, but he did not follow the rules.
Nyanzi warned that other bail conditions like maintaining peace would remain standing during the grace period, but Besigye did not heed.
It is not clear, what Court’s decision will be today.
Besigye is still battling the same charges at the Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s court, where he also jumped a hearing, and the judge was forced to issue a summon for his arrest recently.
