Lubaga South legislator, Hon. Paul Kato Lubwama has denied allegations that he did not at any point obtain a senior 4 certificate after failing his UCE examinations miserably.
Lubwama was dragged to Court by an activist, a one Habib Buwembo, through the Center for Legal Aid (CLA), an organization that provides free legal services.
But speaking to the press this afternoon, the comic legislator blamed all his trouble on FDC party claiming it is determined to see him kicked out of parliament.
In his suit, Buwembo argues that having failed UCE examinations in 1988, the legislator’s alleged Diploma in Music Dance and Drama obtained from Makerere University is null and void.
His argument was supported by UNEB which wrote to the CLA explaining that Lubwama’s grades obtained at O’level were not sufficient enough to earn him a certificate.
However Lubwama questions the timing, considering that the complainant could have stopped him during campaigns not now when he is already representing his people in the 10th parliament. The issue comes up for hearing on October 31st at High Court in Kampala.
“Its up to them, me I am enjoying my life. Let them go in courts of law I don’t have any problem with that. But it is very interesting that it has taken them long to find out that Kato Lubwama didn’t go to school.”
Kato Lubwama also claims he has not received any court summons in regards to the case, but is ready to show up on the due date and show them who he is.
Kato argues that his command of the queen’s language should be evidence enough to show that he went to school, “But even the English I am speaking, if somebody didn’t go to school, cannot speak this English.”
He then accuses the FDC of plotting to destroy his political carrier through this baseless suit as he ranted in Luganda.
“Nabagamba dda nti abantu balina obusajja kumutima okuva lwenafuuka memba wa palamenti, manyi yo ekibiina ekimu ekya FDC kekigenda kikolakola bino ebintu, naye nze Katonda yampa favor njakuwangula ela.” Literally meaning; “I told you already that people are so jealous since I became Member of Parliament. I know of a political party, FDC which goes around doing all this stuff, but God favored me and I will win.”
“All those people who feel that Kato Lubwama is important in their societies, they will come up with lawyers. This will be a wonderful court case, people just watch the space.”
