The opposition Uganda People’s Congress, UPC has called upon Government to fix the disparities that still exist in PLE performance between schools in urban areas and rural areas, private schools and UPE schools.
Addressing the press at the party offices in Kampala today Andrew Omara from the UPC communications department said the party congratulates all those who passed in the recently released examinations and urges them to continue to persevere with their studies.
“Performances now are not necessarily an indicator of future educational achievement. To mitigate the disparities in performance, government is advised to increase investment in the education sector so as to ensure teacher/pupil and pupil/text book ratios are improved upon. The current budgetary allocation per pupil is totally inadequate and is leaving the rural schools at an unacceptable disadvantage compare to the majority of the urban Schools” Omara added.
According to Omara, the situation is further compounded by the tough economic situation in the rural areas where parents are struggling to provide for their families at home, let alone provide meals for their children at school.
“UPC therefore urges government to reassess its budgetary priorities and focus on giving this next generation a better chance in their futures by intervening now.”
