Charles Wesly Mumbere, the Omusinga of Rwenzururu Kingdom is today returning to Jinja High Court for hearing of his bail application. The Omusinga will appear before Justice Michael Elubu.
Rwenzururu Chief Prince, Christopher Kibanzanga is howevr optimistic that his brother will be out on bail today.
Kibanzanga, who also doubles as the Agriculture State Minister, told journalists in Kasese Town on Sunday, that they had fruitful negotiations with President, Yoweri Museveni, the Attorney General and Inspector General of Police to secure Mumbere's release.
Mumbere was remanded together with his Prime Minister, Johnson Thembo Kitsumbire and 161 Royal guards to Luzira Prisons in November last year over the Kasese clashes, which claimed the lives of more than 100 suspected Rwenzururu Royal Guards and police officers.
They face 41 counts ranging from treason, terrorism, murder, attempted murder to aggravated robbery and malicious damage to property. On January 13, Justice Eva Luswata released Mumbere on bail but he was re-arrested shortly after and slapped with fresh charges, which prompted his subjects to make a fresh bail application, which is due for ruling later today.
Clearance Bwambale, the Rwenzururu Spokesperson, says members of the Royal family including the Chief Prince, Christopher Kibanzanga will stand surety for the King. According to Bwambale, the state wasn't impressed when opposition politicians stood surety for the King during the first bail application.
Meanwhile, Rwenzururu Kingdom officials have referred the matter of the Rwenzururu Veterans who took responsibility for the Rwenzori clashes to the Kingdom top organ for discussion. The resolution was reached in a meeting of Kingdom officials held on Sunday in Kasese town.
The Rwenzururu Veterans confessed to president, Yoweri Museveni in a meeting at state house last year that they were behind the clashes, which led to the military offensive against the Omusinga's palace.
However, during the meeting of the Kingdom officials, some of the officials called for the excommunication of the veterans from the Kingdom. Kapolyo Bwambale asked the House of Representatives to pass a motion disowning the veterans for misrepresenting the Kingdom.
However, the Rwenzururu Kingdom Acting Premier said the Kingdom top organ will handle the matter and gradually eliminate the veterans from the Kingdom structures. Eight Rwenzururu veterans had attempted to attend the meeting of the Kingdom officials but they were ejected.
