Forum for democratic change, FDC candidate in the Kyadondo East by-election, Apollo Kantinti could lose potential voters after it emerged he cannot cast a vote for himself in today’s by-election.
According to the Electoral body, Kantinti, a candidate in the hotly contested race is not a registered voter, in Kyadondo constituency; instead, he is registered in Mukono.
But as per the law, anyone can stand and be elected in any constituency, provided he or she is a registered voter. This is the same case with Apollo Kantinti.
According to Pail Bukenya, the EC deputy spokesperson, said “I think the law is clear and okay; the EC provided opportunity for eligible persons to update their voting particulars in preparation for this by-election. If a person does not take advantage f the transfer window, then surely the problem is not the law.”
However, it wouldn’t attract legal implications in case Kantinti won the election.
A visibly scared Kantinti however urged his voters to go out in big numbers and win the election. The biggest challenge is among Kantinti, Sebalu Sitenda of NRM and independent candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine.
