Ntungamo municipality electorates have been warned to not vote any independent candidates to parliament as they hinder delivery of services by government.
The warning was sounded by President, Yoweri Museveni while campaigning for the Ruhaama County, NRM party candidate Moses Kahima at Ruhaama sub county playground on Tuesday. Museveni also campaigned at Nyakyera, Rwoho, and later Muriisa in Ntungamo Sub County.
Museveni, while referring to his wife's ten year tenure as the Ruhaama county MP said she repeatedly reminded him about the needs of her electorates because they always shared the same table, a thing that is impossible for an independent or opposition legislator.
The NRM chairman said without a member of parliament who seats on "the party table" where division of resource allocation is done, there can never be real development in the constituency.
During the campaigns, he introduced Kahima, saying he would be a better representative since he is from the ruling NRM party and will always remind him about the needs of his electorate. He described independents as indiscipline people who are either impatient or lack morals.
Electoral Commission set Thursday January 11th as the date for the Ruhaama MP by- election. The Ruhaama MP seat fell vacant following the death of the incumbent, William Beijukye Zinkurateire on November, 4th 2017.
The NRM party candidate Moses Kahima is facing off stiff competition from Dr. Peninah Beinomugisha Jambo, Eng. Jackson Kabikire Mubangizi and Ms. Vastine Orishaba, all independents.
