Three youths are in police custody after they were arrested attempting to access parliament without notifying the speaker Rebecca Kadaga.

Police arrested the leaders of the Save Nambooze Crusaders, a newly formed pressure group fighting for the rights of Mukono Municipality MP, Betty Nambooze.

The MP is currently hospitalized at Kiruddu Hospital with complications in her spine following her arrest for alleged incitement in the murder of Arua Municipality counterpart Col. Ibrahim Abiriga.

According to Nambooze’s medical report, she suffered spinal cord compression and had undergone posterior lumbar decompression and fusion, a surgical procedure that joins two or more bones together into one solid bone last year, after the infamous Age limit Bill fight in parliament.

Last week, the Uganda Human Rights commission pleaded with the IGP, Okoth Martin Ochola to order her release, so that she can be flown to India immediately for review. Her appointment in India was slated for 16th June 2018, but it has passed.

Med K Kaggwa, the UHRC chairman warned that should anything happen to the MP, Police would be held liable, since they have held her beyond the mandatory 48 hours without presenting her before courts of law.

Habib Buwembo, one of the group’s leaders prayed for action to an end of the impunity and abuse of human rights by security agencies.

His counterpart Yasin Galiwango, accused government of exposing Nambooze's life to risk by delaying her travel to India.
