Parliament has constituted a committee to attend a court martial hearing in Gulu tomorrow. The hearing is for Kyadondo East MP Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi who was arrested in relation to the insecurity in Arua that led to death of one person on Monday.
Parliament has this afternoon nominated MPs, Jacob Oboth (chairperson for the legal and Parliamentary affairs committee), Jovah Kamateka, Baryayanga Aja, Amule Ruth, Allan Ssewanyana, Medard Ssegona to attend the court martial in Gulu tomorrow Thursday.
The team will also attend the hearing at the chief magistrate court in Gulu where MPs other than Hon Kyagulanyi will be tried. These include; Gerald Karuhanga, Mike Mabike and Paul Mwiru who are being held at Gulu Police station since yesterday. However, it is believed that the number of MPs is more than three, though the whereabouts of others remains unknown.
The troubled MPs had gone to campaign for Independent candidate Kassiano Wadri who is vying for the MP seat to replace fallen Col. Ibrahim Abiriga who was assassinated in June this year by unknown gunmen.
They were arrested for inciting violence that led to attack on the president’s convoy and death of a driver of Kyadondo East MP Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi.
Second Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Moses Ali told a parliamentary seating this afternoon that Hon Kyagulanyi was flown to Gulu hospital but he is now okay. Adding that the singer turned politician was found with a gun and he will appear before the court martial in Gulu.
The total number of people arrested in Arua on Monday is 33, including the candidate Wadri. Pressed by MPs to explain the story of torture of MPs especially Hon. Francis Zaake, he said it is not true. “There is no torture at Gulu central police station cell, the MPs are accessible through their relatives and lawyers” Gen. Ali told the house.
This afternoon, Kyagulanyi’s family demanded for his release, claiming he was missing and that all they had were headlines from News papers.
His wife Barbara Kyagulanyi wondered why her husband who has never been in military, or even trained for any military mission would be held in a military barracks.
The country now awaits results from tomorrow’s Court hearings.
