The anti-riot police is heavily deployed at Kabale district council hall ahead of an extraordinary council session to move a vote of no confidence against Darius Nandiinda, the Kabale Resident District Commissioner.
Heavily armed police officers under the command of Brian Ampeire, Kabale District Police Commander and Henry Kisembo, the Commander of Field Force Unit police in Kabale district are seen patrolling the district headquarters Makanga and the council hall since morning.
by midday, councilors were also seen arriving at the council hall ready to attend the session.
Nandiinda also arrived at the council hall being guarded by Venansio Kanyankole, a Uganda Peoples Defense Forces soldier and another unidentified UPDF soldier.
His feud with councilors started early this year when he was accused of sanctioning works on Kasheregyenyi Health Centre III in Kamuganguzi Sub County, Kabale district.
Construction of the facility was halted by his deputy Gad Ahimbisibwe Rugaaju on May 15, 2019.
He halted the works by Ricky Construction Company citing shoddy work. At the time of the suspension, the building had developed cracks and part of the building collapsed.
However, Nandiinda ordered the contractor to resume works.
This angered councilors led by Kamuganguzi Sub County councilor Julius Barusya, Emmy Arineitwe, the district councillor representing Kitumba Sub County and Kabale District Chairman Patrick Besigye Keihwa who accused Nandiinda of failing to value the investment by the government by okaying a job that has loopholes.
However, the bickering was worsened by the recent transfer of Rugaaju from Kabale to Iganga District, with councilors accusing Nandiinda for influencing Rugaaju’s transfer yet he has been fighting against corruption.
